Sub. : Request to help save Human Rights in U. P. Jails

This refers to my RTI query dated 04-10-2009 and subsequent part-reply
from the head office of jail administration & improvement services

Vide letter no. 3672/ja.su.cell-801 dated 11-02-2010 , the concerned
PIO has sent me district wise position of jailed humans of 53
districts of Uttar Pradesh as on 31-12-2009 . Scanned copies of the
three pages of this report are attached with this mail as three files

Apart from many other aspects , the Report shows the poor plight of
jailed humans in the jails of Uttar Pradesh. The mean overcrowding
index of 53 districts is 1.89.A look at the overcrowding index makes
it clear that U.P. jails have high overcrowding index to the tune of
3.76 as in Moradabad Jail. This means that on an average 3.76 humans
are being kept in U. P. Jails having facility of only 1 human. The
position of these jails is grossly violative of human-rights and is
highly undesirable . The problem needs to be addressed at your level
on top priority basis.
Please intervene and take necessary actions to ensure that the problem
be solved to give a humane atmosphere to jailed humans in Uttar
Pradesh.
