Media can help building poverty, corruption free society: Seminar told

Participants of a seminarin Rangpur underscored the need of proper
implantation of right to information act in order to ensure skilful
role of the media which could help remove disparity, eliminate
poverty, corruption and establish good governance in the country.

They said that ensuring right to information act is the key to
establishing all rights. The growth of national development is
hampered if there is no right to information act in the country.

The purpose of the seminar was to focus on the establishing right to
information act properly and increase of transparency in the
government's machineries and initiatives to establish good governance
in the country. Transpar-ency International Ban-gladesh[TIB] and
Conscious Citizen Committee (CCC) jointly organized the seminar titled
'Proper Implementation of right to information act' at Police
Community Centre of the town. Deputy Commissioner (DC), BM Enamul Haq
attended the workshop as the chief guest while Upazilla Chairman,
Mostafizur Rhaman was present as special guest with Press Club
president, Sadrul Alam Dulu in the chair. The DC in his speech
stressed the need for establishing a network among journalists,
government and non-government organizations to achieve the target of
development of the country. Press club president, Sadrul Alam Dulu
said, right to information act was the precondition of eliminating
corruption, disparity, nepotism and establishing good governance and a
accountability in the country. So, the role of media is indispensable
for decentralization and economic development of the country.

Members of civil society, government and non-government officials,
politicians and journalists were present in the session.
